Oral history interviews, 1999 [videorecording].

The collection consists of seven digital videocassettes of interviews with prominent former members and affiliates of the Graduate School of Oceanography: emeritus professor Nelson Marshall; Dean Knauss; Sen. Pell; and Marilyn Fish, daughter of the late Charles Fish, and her husband Joe, both of whom were students in the program in the early 1950s. The interviews were conducted by Walter Gray, former director of the New England Marine Resources Information Program and the University's Marine Advisory Service.

The Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) of the University of Rhode Island began as the Narragansett Marine Lab in Narragansett, R.I. in 1936. In 1960 it was renamed the Fish Oceanographic Lab after its founder Charles Fish. The GSO was established in 1961 and ten years later, under the direction of Dean John A.
